A good day

By yesterday evening I had feelings of having accomplished many things, I felt that it had been a really good day.  It's a rare occasion but it was a good day.  We started off by going to the boys end of year school presentation day where the Kindy kids and year 6 receive their graduation certificates and awards are handed out.  Ethan was presented with an award for Achievement in class by his lovely teacher Miss Peyton.  He was one of four award recipients in his class.  He was very excited in his calm way, so were we, and proud.

After school I took Sam and Ethan to the Beecroft children's bookshop as the author Emily Rodda (of Deltora Quest, Key to Rondo) and illustrator of her books Marc McBride were going to be visiting the shop for an afternoon tea discussion.  I must admit I was very excited when I found out they were going to be there, probably more so than the boys as I have read a lot of her books.  We selected our books from home to be signed and waited patiently out the back of the book shop before we were guided upstairs to their "function room" where authors gave talks etc.  It was a nice little circle of children and their parents sitting and listening to Emily Rodda's inspiration and advice.

She was very interesting and encouraging about children writing, to write for themselves and to enjoy what they like to write about.  While she was answering questions Marc McBride began air brushing a dragon, you can see the progression below.

By the time the session had finished the dragon was complete, pretty impressive too. We ran out of time to stick around and get books signed as Sam had a soccer game starting, but I was able to leave our books to be signed and picked up later.  Sam felt it was more important to get to his soccer game on time, we only missed the first 5 minutes.  To top off the day Sam's team won their indoor soccer game.  A truly good day.
